Time-Tested Kitchen Hacks That Never Fail
Use these tips when you cook to save time, keep your kitchen tidy, and ensure delicious results.
1.
Start Garlic Cold. When recipes start with sautéing garlic in oil, put the garlic and oil in a cold pan and then put it over heat. The slow, even heating will prevent the garlic from getting singed and tainting the flavor of your dish.
2.
Taste As You Go. The flavor of seasonings changes over time, so it's important to make adjustments as you go. Take after the pros and keep a few clean spoons nearby while you work, then grab one and do a quick taste at each stage of cooking.
3.
Double Your Sauce. Regardless of the recipe, I usually end up wishing there was more sauce. Now I always double the sauce and I’ve never once regretted it! If you end up with leftovers, pour it over veggies and a protein for tomorrow’s lunch.
4.
Season To Taste. It’s better to think of the seasonings listed in a recipe as a starting point to build off of. When in doubt, adding a splash of acid (like lemon juice or vinegar) and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt will rarely lead you astray.
5.
Read The Recipe. This is something that I’m personally terrible at. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve started cooking only to realize I was supposed to marinate something hours ago! So note to self: avoid the headache and read the recipe.
